Well, in Faramir's case, it turned out it was all right, despite Sam's doubts.
I don't really see Boromir conspiring with Shelob.
But of course there are plenty of other ways things could go badly wrong.

(BTW, looks if I can't comment on the Thorondis story, due to some LJ bug.)
