She hasn't gone all that far--he could visit, surely--but time is passing more quickly for her than for him, nevertheless.

Time is one factor, and somehow I think Gilraen had decided on a clean break. She didn't want any suggestion of an Elven lover to reflect on the way her own people looked at her or more importantly, as she could return to Imladris if she wanted, on Aragorn.
