Oh, that's a great evocation of how hard times were for the Dunedain (& for Men in general) in Gondor during Sauron's dominion, outside the little sanctuaries of Rivendell, Lorien and the Shire that canon gives us. It's also nice foreshadowing for RotK, of course.
