Great use of the prompt.

Thank you. Years of playing D&D in the past mean that I always thing of the blunt weapon when I see the word, rather than the spice, so I thought my young elf might have had a similar problem!

Once again you provide a recipe that sounds simply lovely. You played D&D for years also? I went through college playing every week - LOL.

Played and DM'd for a long time - and it turned out to be useful when I wrote fight scenes in 'Brotherhood' and 'Left Behind!'.

Finding suitable things for him to cook has been a big part of the fun.

We would still be playing if we were still in touch with our original group. Unfortunately age and location hasn't allowed for more than virtual playing of D&D for many years now.

I'm really enjoying your recipies :-)

Hm, that sounds delicious, definitely have to try that when strawberries are in season. I like to eat them spicy and with herbs anyway. I don't think I can get mace blades, thought; we only have already powdered mace on offer. Do you think I can use a bit of freshly ground nutmeg instead? That's what I usually do for recipes with mace...

I love the use of the prompt in your drabble very much! Not only the setting in an elven kitchen (we get far too little fanfic about elven cuisine), but also the mental leap your elf makes to his memory...

I really like pepper on strawberries. I would think nutmeg would work absolutely fine.

I have violet sugar which I use on fresh, quartered strawberries, together with a little bit of selfmade vanilla sugar, freshly ground cardamom seeds, a dash of allspice and fresh lemon verbena and lemon mint, both chopped. Lemon balm and any kind of mint works as well, but lemon verbena combined with cardamom really blows me away. I'm going to get a new rose geranium this year, Siljan found one with an intense lemon scent, and am looking forward to what I can do with these.

My daughter would love the violet sugar - I don't like it as a flavouring, but she really loves it.

I'm like the Elf... I think of the weapon even as I reach for the little jar of mace!

But the look in his eyes had told a different story.

Ooh. The plot thickens... I do wonder who this unnamed teacher is.

Mace really should come in large jars usable as a weapon, I think!

And yes - as you put the drabbles together there are certainly clues as to who has taught him to cook.
