It was in no way meant to be a test, I was just worried about putting off people with long notes!

Here is the explanation:

The title alludes to Gimli's speech about the Glittering Caves in LOTR; apart from referring to the lamps of Moria, this passage also gave me the idea that Celebrimbor's lamp is intended to light a particular location in a favourite cave. The text of this drabble also contains a quotation from Gimli's "Song of Durin" (shining lamps of crystal hewn).

I caught both of the allusions but not the first letters. Very clever! Your also evoked the images of the lamps very well.

I had got into the swing of doing the first letters for a different prompt set over at SWG, so it sort of came naturally by that point.
