I love her work too, although actually not Daughter of the Forest, it was a bit too slow.

She lives in my city!

I loved Daughter of the Forest. I haven't dared read her other books for fear I wouldn't like them as much, I have no idea why. But my fondness for the 12 Dancing Princesses means I cannot resist Wildwood Dancing, which I hadn't heard of. Neat!

You might not have heard of Wildwood Dancing because it's TECHNICALLY Marillier's take on "teen fantasy" versus the "adult" in the Sevenwaters trilogy. Having read it, though, I think the only major difference between her "teen" and "adult" fiction is the lack of sexual situations; it's still written in her literary style and it absolutely drags the reader in. I highly recommend it :)

It also has a sequel, which is more of a sister-book... and I enjoyed that one even more. I think it's called Cybelle's Secret or something like that. But like, I could predict how Wildwood Dancing was going to end, just because I'm familiar with the tale, but the sequel was its own story. And exotic!

Cybele's Secret, yes, and it was wonderful too (of course)!

I absolutely loved the entire Sevenwaters trilogy, especially because I discovered it right when I was around the same age as Sorcha. Haven't read anything else by her though, so it's awesome to see some of them featured here.

Oh my gods I ADORE Juliet Marillier's work!! Daughter of the Forest is one of my all-time favorite books. I also really liked her Bridei Chronicles; my favorite of those was actually the third book. I love everything she's written so far. I am actually reading her new book Heart's Blood right now. Only a few pages in but it's hooked my attention.

I really liked Bridei as well, and yes, the third book was probably my favorite in that set. And I'm sure it corresponds with some mythology, but it wasn't a story that I was particularly familiar with, so I left it off this recommendation. Hopefully if anyone has yet to discover Marillier, one thing will lead to another.... :)
