Diamonds and Toads

Does anyone know of any modern adaptations of Diamonds and Toads? (It is also called The Fairy in some versions of the original tale.) It's the one with the sisters who are sent to the well, and the first one helps the fairy and is blessed to have jewels and flowers fall from her lips as she speaks, and the second sister is sent to the well in ( Read more... )

The first thing that springs to my mind is a portion of Catherynne Valente's second book in her outstanding duology, In The Night Garden.

In book 2, there is a story of two sisters who receive "curses" where one always speaks amber and one always speaks pearls, if memory serves.

Anyway, I'd recommend a read of the whole duology. :)

Yes those are on my wishlist! Interesting to know about the fairy tale tie in, though, I didn't know about that bit.

Oh there are loads of fairy tale references in the books :) One reason why I adore them so.

I keep meaning to go back and re-read them (something I rarely do anymore with so many good new books out), and I could be fuzzy on the details of the curse in book 2, but it definitely sprang to mind when I read your summary of the fairy tale :)
