Title: Homework
Characters: Bakaleya6
Rating: G
Word count: 1063
A/N: This is a very random thing with barely any point in it. :’D I just wrote it on one night, wanting to write something, anything about those boys. (Thank you for the prompt, Riikka!)

Their dressing room is rarely - if ever - quiet and Juri loves all the noise and the people around him. The lively atmosphere makes him feel like they’re living in the word’s each sense and even though it’s a bit cliché he likes to think the sounds around them are the sounds of their youth when they make sure they get to enjoy their teenage years to the fullest.
However, even if one is seventeen and full of exploding energy there is one thing in the world that forces everyone to sit down and shut up for a while every day.
Homework.
Juri looks at the math book and makes an ugly face at it. School itself isn’t bad really but there are some things he could happily skip, mathematics being one of them. The numbers on his study book are like hieroglyphs to him and he has no idea how to solve the problem on the currently open page. So far he has only managed to write down the number of the problem on his notebook. He wishes he could ask Kouchi for help but the boy is deeply enough concentrated with his own book that Juri doesn’t dare to bother him.
The only thing making him feel any better at the moment is that on the opposite side of the table Shintaro seems to be having similar kind of problems with his English homework. The boy has been staring at the same page for a long while already and Juri is quite sure it’s not because there is something interesting on the page but rather because Shintaro is probably trying to force the irregular verbs to burn into his mind by sheer will.
“It’s a rather simple quadratic equation,” Hokuto says in a low voice and pokes Juri’s notebook with the eraser end of his pencil, “you knew how to do it earlier today, didn’t you?”
“I didn’t,” Juri murmurs back, not wanting to disturb the others with useless noise.
“But I saw you drawing it on the blackboard,” Hokuto points out and Juri chuckles.
“I didn’t volunteer. The teacher picked me just to be an ass. He knows I don’t understand a word of his speech!”
“But your equation was perfectly right,” Hokuto tries, “I checked it you know.”
“I took the whole thing from Taiga’s notebook after he had copied it from Kawamura-chan,” Juri says matter-of-factly and Hokuto sighs, clearly wondering why he even bothers to be surprised anymore.
“Do you need help?” he asks then and Juri gives him a resigned nod. He doesn’t quite have any choices.
Shintaro glances at the older boys when they concentrate on the math problem, and he sighs again. At least math is a logical subject with only one right answer for each problem. This, however, is something he can’t get over that easily. Where does he even need all these verbs anyway, he thinks and takes a deep breathe of frustration.
“Don’t give up, Shin.”
“Hmm?”
“Told you not to give up,” Jesse repeats, this time in Japanese.
“I won’t,” Shintaro says and rests his cheek against his palm, “but I'm not getting anywhere with this either.”
“May I help you?” Jesse asks and Shintaro lets out a small, almost inaudible laugh.
“It’s weird when you do that,” he says, “You know I don’t understand a word!” It’s not true. He understands Jesse’s English way better than anyone else’s. He knows it’s because Jesse pronounces the words very carefully whenever he’s talking to them and he appreciates the effort. It makes him feel slightly better when he realizes he’s not that hopeless after all.
“Liar,” Jesse says with an amused smile and shifts a bit closer to take a look at Shintaro’s book, “So, what’s the problem?”
Taiga has been listening to the conversation; not really because he’s interested in the topic but because he’s not interested in the things on his own book. He should probably ask Hokuto for help as those things seem to be easy for the boy. There is much in common between mathematics and physics anyway, right? While waiting for Hokuto to finish tutoring Juri, Taiga takes his pencil and idly sketches random shapes and figures on the edge of his notebook when he feels someone kicking his leg under the table and looks up.
“Shouldn’t you be studying?” Kouchi asks, an amused grin on his face.
“What about you?” Taiga throws back when Kouchi closes his notebook and collects his concepts into a neat pile.
“Finished already,” he answers and Taiga sighs.
“I wish I could say the same.”
They glance at the rest of their group, and Kouchi leans across the table to take Taiga’s study book.
“I’ve never been very good at physics,” he warns, “but I guess I might know something about it. My teacher used this same book for our class last year.”
It doesn’t matter to Taiga if Kouchi knows anything about physics or not, as long as he is willing to try to help, Taiga thinks. He can’t help a relieved smile pulling the corners of his mouth when he gets up and moves his chair to the other side of the table, next to Kouchi’s seat. He definitely enjoys team work better.
The silence only lasts for about ten more minutes before Shintaro lets out a victorious yell that makes everyone laugh.
“I remembered them! I remembered them all!” Only after a minute Taiga joins his joy and on the same moment Juri realizes he has solved all the problems he had for homework.
The peaceful silence is long gone when Shintaro high-fives with Jesse and throws his books into his bag, everyone else following his example. A guy can sit still only so long after all, and soon the dressing room is full of life again.
Their dressing room is rarely - if ever - quiet. Juri loves all the noise and the people around him even though that’s something he probably wouldn't dare to say aloud. And when Sanada and Nozawa drop by on their own break and remind them of how much more they’ll have to work once they start preparing to their university exams, Juri laughs together with the others. University exams aren't anything they should worry about yet.
They have just got through their regular everyday homework and that's enough for now.
