Reimeiroku Okita Route Chapter 6 (Part 1)

Mar 14, 2012 07:30

The main events were the same as Saito's Ch6: the sumo wrestling performance, the Rasetsu in Shimabara, and Yamatoya aflame. But as opposed to Saitou's, Okita's story is still heavy.

Now I think that I fully understand the Okita in Hakuouki, and all his actions. This is the starting point for his character in the original visual novel.

Is sad... Poor Okita, than his only way for to be a little satisfied with himself have to be this.

Desho~
I didn't like Okita in the original game, because it seems that he's just being annoying for no reason.
But after Reimeiroku I began to love him. He's striving so hard to repay Kondou-san, and his playful attitude is to hide this... Why must Okita route be so tear-jerking in both original and Reimeiroku?! Q_Q

Yes, he hides his feeling all with smiles and snark, and that can be confusing. Now, things like the talk about the Guard of the Imperial Tomb makes sense, too.

I loved Okita in the first moment, but I didn't know why (I thought that all that smiles and snark was a little annoying). So it was a little like... a premonition, I guess? XD I like complex, twisted but kind characters.

Kondou-san was so kind with him that is logical, and I wanted to hug both of them ;_; The worst if than Okita has the only route with CGs in a bad ending. That is plain cruel, really! His routes are hard enough without it *I get shivers with that CGs...*

Every time I read your translations to this it surpises me how Souji has changed. It's sad to see him changing like this. It's like turning into a killing machine. It's part of what makes him hot though XD
I wonder if the animated version of reimeiroku will show much of his route. I really hope they do.
As always, thanks for translating this right when I was dying for more Hakuouki ;)

I hope to see this in anime too. Okita route is too good to miss! His route is mostly about himself, so there won't be trouble merging it into other routes.
And he showed so many different emotions in Reimeiroku: playful, apathetic, anger, angst, desperation, sorrow, fake smile in front of Kondou-san, and smile from the bottom of his heart. The voice acting is amazing! This really calls for animation.

This was such an amazing thing to come home to after a loooong day.

Ahh, Okita's route is really so painful in the best way. He has such a great character arc altogether. His total lack of regard for human life is so starkly portrayed when it gets pared down to that simple desire to be useful to Kondou. It hurts how he's so earnest in trying to be considerate of Kondou's feelings, and yet he doesn't understand precisely what he did wrong. It hurts even more to see Kondou and Hijikata don't really consider Okita's feelings in return, wanting to protect him at the cost of completely ignoring his own wish ( ... )

Kondou & Hijikata are like traditional oriental (at least Japanese & Chinese) parents. They decide what's the best for the child and force tell the child to do so, disregarding his/her opinion, mostly because they don't think the child would know what's good and what's not. Sometimes older siblings (with big age gap) also do that.

Although Okita isn't their child or sibling, they've been with him since he's little, so the feeling is close. Sannan seemed to notice this quite a while ago. Back when they were arguing whether Okita should go to Kyoto or not because of measles, Sannan pointed out, "why not ask him?"

Perhaps manipulating isn't the right word... tempting maybe? I had the image of the snake offering the apple.
The acknowledgment or respect of an equal... well said. Ironically he can't get this from Hijikata until he accepted Sannan's offer. T_T

wuah!!! so heavy...reimeiroku really showed us Okita's characters development. It made me understand how he become someone who can said 'I'll kill you' easily and....jokingly? (can't really find the right words).
Thanks for the translation as always :)
