Chapter 13
“I didn’t want to make you worry but Keito’s in the hospital.”
Yabu’s words echoed in Hikaru’s mind again and again until he thought it might drive him crazy. He wished that he had let Yabu finish what he wanted to say before pressing him with more questions. “What hospital? He’s still alive right? Yabu! Don’t leave me hanging here!” He had let Yabu get as far as telling him what hospital Keito was at before promptly hanging up and telling the driver to change course.
Hikaru hadn’t been sitting for more than five minuets before he thought he couldn’t contain himself anymore, “Are we there yet?”
“No…we seem to have hit a traffic jam,” the driver replied apologetically.
“Are we close?” the stressed boy asked, unable to hide the frustration and worry in his voice.
The driver nodded, “Yes, less than half a mile I’d say…I know I shouldn’t say this, but I think you’d get there faster if you ran.”
Hikaru’s head, which had fallen to his chest in despair, popped back up as he threw a thankful smile to the driver, “Really?! How do get there?”
Pointing out the windshield the driver spoke, “Just there, you see? That big white building; it’s the hospital you’re headed to.”
Hikaru tensed up and reached for his wallet, “Thanks, I’ll take your advice.” Handing the driver the amount due for his ride so far Hikaru jumped out of the idle taxi cab and made a bee line for the hospital.

Sighing with frustration Yabu glared at his cell phone wishing Hikaru wasn’t such a hasty person. “What did your phone do to you this time?” Yabu looked away from his phone to see Inoo walking into the hospital waiting room.
“It’s not my phone, it’s Hikaru.” Closing the screen over the keypad the older member shoved the offending object into his pocket, “He wouldn’t listen long enough to let me finish and most likely thinks Keito’s dead by now.”
Inoo couldn’t hold back his chuckle as he watched Yabu’s face contort with frustration, “That’s Hikaru for you. How is Keito by the way? Do they know the cause?”
Nodding Yabu answered, “Yeah, the doctor said it was extreme exhaustion. I knew I shouldn’t have let him work him self to death. This is my fault.” Looking away from Inoo Yabu crossed his arms in self loathing and stared sadly at the floor.
Frowning Inoo stood up from his seat across from Yabu to sit next to his band mate putting a hand on his shoulder, “Yabu, this isn’t your fault. If anything it’s everyone’s for not paying enough attention to Keito when he needed it most. We all saw how lonely he was without Hikaru around.”
“That’s what I mean; I should have done something…” Yabu refused to put the blame on anyone but him self.
Just as Inoo was prepared to form his rebuttal a very breathless Hikaru stormed into the waiting room, “Where is he? What’s happened?” Running up to Yabu he took his friends shoulders and tried to shake the answer out of him. “Yabu, don’t hold anything back. I want to know!”
Sighing Inoo grabbed Hikaru’s hands off of a throttled Yabu, “He can’t tell you anything if you shake him to death.”
Nodding Hikaru pulled away and waited for Yabu to answer. The older boy’s hesitation wasn’t helping Hikaru’s nerves at all and he began to reach for Yabu’s shoulders again. But before he could throttle poor Yabu again, the door to Keito’s room opened and a white coated doctor left the room, “You can visit him now.” Completely forgetting about Yabu, Hikaru darted into the room to see Keito resting on a very white hospital bed.
Slowing down, Hikaru tread softly over to the slumbering boy for fear of waking him. Eyeing Keito from head to toe he couldn’t see anything wrong with the boy; there where no bandages, no bruises, nothing. Confusion welled up in Hikaru as he watched Keito sleep. He knew he should have felt relieved to see Keito whole and in one piece, but couldn’t help it as his worries only piled up more because he couldn’t figure out why his precious other half was laying in a hospital bed.
Hearing footsteps entering the room Hikaru turned to see Yabu and Inoo approaching. Yabu spoke first, “He was practicing hard, like he always did, even an hour after the scheduled practice was over he was still dancing. I offered to take him home, and turned away for just a second.”
Yabu paused and Inoo finished for him, “Out of exhaustion Keito collapsed down a flight of stairs.”
Not knowing what to think Hikaru felt his pent up frustrations and exhaustion of his own building up, “I see.” Clenching his fist he looked away from the other two and gazed down at his boyfriend. All of a sudden the younger boy looked so much more vulnerable and small lying in that bed. “Can…can I have a moment?” Hikaru didn’t look up as he made his request, but felt a little bit of relief as he heard the two leave the room.
Now, all alone, Hikaru couldn’t contain himself as he hunched over and slid down the wall until he hit the floor. Tears now flowed freely as he watched Keito sleep, “This is my entire fault. I knew I shouldn’t have left him so alone.” Not wanting to wake the sleeping boy he buried his head in his arms and stifled his sobs with his sleeve, “I’m so sorry…”
“Hikaru?”
The sobbing boy looked up slowly as he heard his name called to see Keito awake and sitting up looking at him in confusion. “Hikaru what’s wrong?” Not even attempting to dry his tears Hikaru launched him self off the floor and attacked Keito with a tight hug.
“I’m so sorry…so sorry…”
“Hikaru, Hikaru? What’s the matter? Please don’t cry…” Hikaru pulled back and regarded the worried look on Keito’s face.
“You’re the one in the hospital and you’re worrying about me?” The familiar feeling of affection welled up inside of Hikaru for the first time in weeks. Unable to contain the emotion he leaned forward and kissed the other boy deeply. “I missed you so much…” Hikaru mumbled between kisses. “I’m so sorry…”
Keito pulled away reluctantly and gazed confusedly at Hikaru, “For what? What happened?” He reached out and wiped at the older boy’s tears, “I don’t understand.”
Closing his eyes, Hikaru relished the feeling of Keito as the boy stroked his cheeks, “It’s all my fault…” he said sadly.
“What is? I’m sure you didn’t do anything…” Keito cooed trying to sooth his emotions.
“This… look at where you are. If I hadn’t left you alone for so long you wouldn’t be here.” Unable to keep the guilt out of his voice Hikaru looked away.
Chuckling Keito turned the sad boy’s face back to his for another short kiss, “I’m here because I worked my self to exhaustion and fell. I’m pretty sure you didn’t make me work. Actually,” Keito pulled himself up, “I wanted to work hard like you. You’re trying so hard to make this concert and getting better was the only way I could contribute.”
Just as Hikaru met eyes with Keito he felt the affection building again at the sight of the amazing boy, “Keito…I…” He leaned in to kiss him again but stopped when he heard the door open as the doctor walked in.
“Hey there Keito-kun, how are you doing?” He asked in a friendly tone, he didn’t really sound worried at all.
“I feel fine really…” Keito answered.
Nodding the doctor continued, “Well, that blow to your head when you fell down the stairs, it only amounted to a really bad headache. You’ll be fine.” Both Hikaru and Keito let out a sigh of relief. “But,” they both sucked another breath in to hold, “it looks as though you’ve sprained your ankle on the way down.”
“Only sprained?” Hikaru asked in awe.
Keito’s reaction was not as astonished, “But what about the concert?”
The doctor looked down at his notes for a moment, “That’s about two weeks from now right?” Both boy’s nodded, “Well, if you favor it until then, you should be fine. Just come in for a check up right before you perform.”
“Really?” Keito breathed, he was filled with relief.
Nodding the doctor placed his clipboard under his arm, “Yes, just make sure to keep off it for two weeks and you should be ready to go.” He turned to Hikaru, “I’ll place you in charge of making sure he does just that.” Hikaru nodded and the doctor smiled and walked out of the room.
Turning back to Keito Hikaru planted a small kiss on his cheek, “Looks like I’ll be taking care of you this time!”
