I have to apologize for this one...it was probably the most major, and the "meanest."

I've gone down from over 70 people to nearly 50.

I'm sorry to those I had been close to, or that I had any rapport with...but I had to downsize extremely to those: I know IRL, I've been good/close friends with for somewhere between 6-10 years, or something similar.

You shouldn't give yourself grief for stuff like this, hon. The point of communities like LJ is to allow people to connect in ways that enhance their lives. Sometimes we need to make choices to pull back from extensive socialization during times of stress, extreme business, emotional trauma, etc. That's okay, as long as you're honest about it and don't act in such a way as to make people think they've wronged you when really you just need to take time for yourself. Better a friend who says up-front that she can't participate as actively in your life as she once did than one who simply disappears or cuts you off without a word.

I just know a couple of people might be sensitive about it, so I wanted to make it very clear I wasn't doing it because I wanted to, or just because I randomly felt like it. It does sadden me a bit that I can't stay connected with as many people in this way, like when I used to, since my life is busy-ing itself up.

The fact that you're being apologetic is enough in of itself. You definitely shouldn't feel too guilty because you are entirely justified to trim down your friends list if you feel the need.

While it sucks to be cut.. if someone makes a friends cut post like this one it makes it much more understandable.

I had someone cut me for no apparent reason once. We had been LJ friends for several years and always had interesting conversations (and never confrontational). When I asked why he cut me he acted surprised he hadn't blocked me and proceeded to do so. Never an explanation or a reason... just an asshole attitude and cut. Those are the ones that suck. What you're doing is the right thing. :)
