I meant it in a good way! I thought it was a great idea, and daring really, to try to delve into Stéphane’s head like that. And it was an interesting choice to emphasize his coming to terms with grief and loss and to explore the way this character takes that grief and loss into a new life. Interesting, in particular, because fans often seem to overlook what a traumatic experience many of our faves had in Vancouver. And turning pain into art is difficult to depict. Actually, making art is always difficult to show without becoming really crude. Well done!

thank you so much for replying. because i was worried that i would depict the characters unconvincingly and go off on a tangent when drawing moments from the exhibition program.

really glad it worked for you :)

i dont think you have anything to worry about - this story is just as beautiful as the program <3 , and he makes it so easy, everything steph creates is just too lovely, isnt it?

I love how their skating tells their story on and off the ice. Their feelings are so subtle that it makes for a poignant story. And the quote in the end is perfect. Thx I hope you do more Stephane/Daisuke.

thank you very much!

i always liked to think that their lives are lived out on the ice. the whole art-is-life and life-as-art thing. i don't know. i wished they found themselves in each other, that it could be a bittersweet occasion.

and yes the first thing that came to my mind after watching the exhibition program (and reading the youtube comments about how it was too Lambiel and all) was that quote. it was so apt :)

and i hope i can write more too.

For once, I see a story really based on skaters and what they do on the ice, how they make this work and how hard they work to look like angels skating effortlessly.

Thank you for sharing with us! :)

i was just reading J. Winterson's The.Powerbook, and came across this: "...and I heard your intake of astonishment at the effort of beauty and the beauty of effort"

really happy you liked the story and thank you for a lovely comment <3

This is positively delectable. I love what you do with words. Little bits of Stephane and Daisuke in a blender: spin, serve cold. (I'm a bit hungry; please don't mind the food metaphor.) The entire paragraph beginning with Standing at the edge of the rink, Stéphane discourses in concentric circles about the exhibition program. ...mmm.

/gushing about style

I'm terribly incoherent at the best of times, and now it's two in the morning, so I'll just say that this. Is lovely. Stories about the process of creation and all the introspection that entails always hit me hard. And the dynamics between Stephane and Daisuke - Steph giving part of himself, Dai absorbing it and making it his own - that is so perfect I can't even.

Basically, DELICIOUS BRAIN FOOD OM NOM NOM. (And I was thinking of writing about these two, but after reading this I don't think I can...or at least, I'll have to think about it a bit more.)
