Looking for Grandpa

The bookstore had Fifty Shades of Grey. I just had to take a peek. Tumblr readings and opinions of that book has given me many moments of laughter. Scouring the shelves, I managed to leave with the complete Sherlock Holmes so yay, some more reading material.

We were actually bumming time until our movie started. We went to watch Snow White and ( Read more... )

Lmao I really don't get why 50 Shades of Grey is as popular as it is. I mean, from what I'm hearing, it's about a girl with no self-esteem being dominated and controlled by a sick man. If it were like, a story about her struggle to escape the mentally abusive relationship she found herself in, I might find it more interesting. But, no, he falls in love with her and they live happily ever after in S&D bliss... at least that's what I grasped. People are reading it because they're turned ON by their relationship. I could be completely wrong. But I just... have no desire to read that book. I read one page out of my cousins copy and it was like "I don't make love to women, I fuck them, and I fuck them hard." O______O' FIRST SENTENCE I READ OFF OF A RANDOM FREAKIN' PAGE!

Yeah, Snow White and the Huntsman didn't look that good. I wanted to see it because of the graphics, and because of the Huntsman... :) but it didn't look like it would be a good movie.

Sushi..... oh, how I miss you... *tear*

lol. It's the writing that really grinds me, and I know if I actually picked up the book I would have more problems with it, so I plan to avoid my brain that pain. If the premise was written well, I wouldn't mind it but some quotes from the book are just laughable.

I thought the graphics would make it bearable to me, because I felt the story itself wouldn't be all that amazing, but no, I had to look away from the screen because I could feel my brain dying.

Yeah. From that one page I read, it kind of felt like it was written for the adolescent audience, you know? It was like reading a young adult book. But it's not.. exactly.. geared.. for the young adult audience lol. It just wasn't well-written at all. There's no way I could get through that book, even out of curiousity.

I heard it was erotica so that might explain it. I've read one other book in that category and the writing there was bad as well; bad writing might be a genre-wide problem.
