 Daemons

Daemons are your eternal companion, from birth to death and beyond. They are your soul, physically manifested, after all. They take the forms of animals, from the simplest cricket to the most fanciful dragon. The more imaginative the person, the more imaginative the daemon's form. Likewise, the more lively the person, the more lively the daemon. Dimwitted persons have slow and sluggish, often naive and gullible daemons. Still, regardless of intelligence, a daemon almost always shows their person's emotional state. It's not impossible for a pair to school themselves, to mask every emotion and thought even in the most turmoil of times, but for a pair whose daemon hasn't settled it's incredibly difficult ( ... )

 Gobblers

Alternatively and truly known as the General Oblation Board, Gobblers are the kidnappers of children. They're part of the Roman Catholic Church (the Magisterium), one that they tend to turn a blind eye to in case they're discovered or if they fail in what they're attempting, so that they can take no blame for their going ons. Their goal, and the Magisterium's, is to rid the world of Dust, which they view as Original Sin. They believe that by separating a child from its daemon before it settles, they'll stop them from attracting Dust and be able to make the world perfect again, when in reality what they're doing is removing a piece of their soul ( ... )

Intercision toocoolfor December 15 2011, 10:36:23 UTC
 Intercision

The process by which a person is separated from their daemon. Initially, few survived any such attempts to actually remove a person's daemon from them, creating two separate entities, but with the development of new techniques and a number of precautions, it became possible for them to remain alive.

If barely. The removal of ones daemon would leave a person essentially soulless, a shell of the being they once were. Creativity, ambition, emotions, would be drastically dampened in an adult and some children. Settled daemons become lifeless and droll, just as uninterested in everything as their person. Most children, should they survive the shock, tend to become lost, though blank, and will attach themselves to an inanimate object when their daemon cannot be found. Should they remain apart, the child will often ask after their daemon, and will focus on very little else. An unsettled daemon separated from their person is nothing more than a spectre, yearning for their child but unable to ever become one with them again. ( ... )

Dust toocoolfor December 15 2011, 10:12:13 UTC
 Dust

Also known as dark matter, Shadows, Rusakov particles, and many more names, Dust is assumed by the Church to be the physical manifestation of Original Sin. However, these particles actually bring consciousness, knowledge, and wisdom to those they interact with, which is why adults attract them far more than children do. Objects that have had human influence, rather than objects straight from nature--in example, a carving versus a simple stick from the forest--also attract far more Dust.

Some cultures, including various Tartar tribes, will willingly drill holes in their skulls to better open themselves up to receiving Dust. It is considered an honor to have this strange procedure done.

Angels are made from condensed Dust, which the Church would pretty much throw a shitfit over if they found out. Irony at its best.

 The Aletheiometer

An Alethiometer is a small, gold-colored, compass-like device that had a single, simple, use: to tell the truth. 'Aletheia' meaning 'Truth' gives its name.
It was very like a clock, or a compass, for there were hands pointing to places around the dial, but instead of the hours or the points of the compass there were several little pictures, each of them painted with the finest and slenderest sable brush.
To use the aletheiometer, you turn the three dials positioned on the outside of it to control the three adjustable needles, pointing them at the various symbols across the face. Each symbol has numberous meanings, and one must clear their mind so that the meanings will come to them. Never rush for an answer, and don't attempt to grasp one, but simply let it come to you. The fourth, free-moving needle will then spin about when the question is asked, and when the asker is in a proper, calm state of mind. For every stop it makes at a certain symbol in answer, that is how many meanings down it is referring to (ie; the ( ... )

 Worlds

Hundreds upon thousands upon millions of worlds coexist without ever knowing of each other. There are various ways to reach these worlds, but very few people know of them. Simply touching your hand through the air will cause you to brush against inumerable parallel worlds, though you will never truly be in contact with them.

The Daemon World toocoolfor December 20 2011, 06:07:20 UTC
 The Daemon World

Much like our own world in many ways, though it developed in an entirely different way. Its technology is almost steampunk in nature, while the rest of its technology ranges from the 1900's to the 1920's. The Roman Catholic Church is the governing force for most of Europe, and is a force to be reckoned with. They will do anything and everything to maintain control, though their reach is only so far.
Brytain - London shows the most signs of advanced steampunk technology, as the country's capital.
