Erroneous Criticisms of the New Holmes Film

Yesterday I spoke with the secretary at work about the Sherlock Holmes movie, which I enjoyed a good deal more than I expected. I found it interesting that many of her complaints about the movie were actually aspects that the movie got right. Everyone is used to Basil Rathbone.

I, myself, do not care for Mr. Downey the Younger because it doesn't matter what Hollywood has him doing, he looks at all times as if he were coated in a layer of grease. It interfered with my enjoyment of Iron Man because I simply could not like Stark when it looked like he never showered. Don't ask me how I get this off him, it's just...I dunno, I just see it.

Well, both Holmes and Stark are very flawed characters, so in that way Downey is perfect for the parts.

Flaws = grease? Not following...I mean, he's a decent actor, and he was in the news for craziness awhile back, but so long as you can still ACT and you didn't kill someone, I don't care, lol. He's just greeeeasy, physically.

James, did I ever manage to give you that Holmes-esque book List of Seven? I have been meaning to for years. It's not by any means great literature, it is probably best classified as a supernatural thriller, but I quite enjoyed it. I'm interested to see what you think of it as a Holmes fan.
