I don’t agree with James Altucher on everything, but man he’s always thought provoking and this latest kinda hit me:

I am currently having the unusual experience of working for an institution that seems to value my outside personae. They *get* that it's why I'll have 8 PhD students by the end of the year. They *get* that it's worth giving me a crucial week off which is inconvenient for everyone, to work on a Worldcon which will bring them attention via me. I'm still heady with the feel of it all.

I decided some time ago that security was an illusion. It left me shaky about life for a long time, but I tell myself that the only thing that is the end of the world is the end of the world and get back to my life.
