Deciding on priorities when money is tight always leaves you dissatisfied, whatever you choose. "Why can't I do both?" is my usual question!
On the other hand, I have to say I haven't had a bath in years (!) - in fact when we remodelled the bathroom a few years ago we had to choose between a walk in shower and a bath (no room for both) and went with the shower, as the oldies were having trouble getting in and out the tub.
Still, I hope you get your bathroom sorted asap. (Tell your Mom not to smile - no-one will notice her tooth. ;))
See we have a bathroom downstairs and another tiny one (mine) upstairs. When we moved in 8yrs ago we yanked the tub out downstairs for precisely the same reason you did. Gram just couldn't get into it. So we have a full walk in shower that you can put a shower chair in (had it set up that way for the last year Gram lived here and needed my help to shower).
Upstairs we can't actually put a full shower in. The ceiling height is just barely clearing 7ft. So the tub is a must with a detachable shower nozzle for me to stand to wash my hair :)
With my headaches bathtime becomes even a more important relaxer; but it's just not been possible for a bit over a year now and oh man, I can't wait to get it fixed.
