Friday Night Lights returning to NBC: are they just starting with season three as though it was never airing on a different channel?

Yep. They're just reairing season 3, the short season 3 at that seeing as they only ordered 13 episodes.

Well okay then! Thanks! I guess with only 13 episodes we can pretend it's one of those classy cable shows with their shorter seasons and higher quality. It's a classy broadcast show masquerading as a classy cable show!

Say hi to the cast of *How I Met Your Mother* for me spectralbovine January 15 2009, 08:11:49 UTC
Golden Globes! And Slumdog Millionaire! I mostly agree with you on the movie; I loved it, but I didn't OMG LOVE it like a lot of people for most of the reasons you state. And I already stated.

Fringe! Has gotten better.

30 Rock! Boobs!

Colin Quinn, oh man, not funny.

Paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam.

FNL is indeed airing on NBC as if it never aired on DirecTV, but the only reason season three got made at all was because DirecTV helped fund it and got first-airing rights. And season three is really really good oh my God the finale was tonight! Sheeeeeit, I am going on a trip tomorrow, but I MUST STAY UP AND WATCH THIS.

Ohhhhhhhhhh. See i'm not up on all the reasons for its not-quite-but-almost cancellation. All i know is that it's still somehow on the air. Miraculously. Even though every network idiot seemed intent on killing it despite its amazing quality. D: ANYWAY i got a good portion of season three downloaded but not all of it, and i was kind of waiting till it was complete to watch all at once (and also so i would remember to watch it and not just watch a few episodes and get sidetracked and have a half-watched season. I AM BAD WITH DOWNLOADED SHOWS.) Anyway anyway. I miss FNL and at some point i will watch s3 and probably go crazy remembering how much i love the show!

Wall-E YAY! (i am not even kidding you, just thinking about that movie gets me choked up. i rewatched it over winter break and just... TEARS. EVEN AT THE HAPPY THINGS. THE WHOLE TIME.)
Aww, I feel you there. I love Wall-E so much. I'm still stupidly sad over the song losing to Bruce Springsteen, though. Silly, I know, but... "Down to Earth" is such an amazing song! D:

I'm seeing Slumdog Millionaire tomorrow, and frankly, I'm almost afraid to at this point, it's been hyped so much. Also, it probably doesn't help that I've already seen both Milk and Frost/Nixon, and I have a feeling I'm still going to come out thinking both films were better, somehow.

Apparently my new fanart is picspams. Editing caps is the only thing i can summon the strength to do nowadays i guess. :(
LOL welcome to my current LJ life. At least you work with caps! I hardly even do that anymore, mainly photos. And I never even made awesome fanart like you! Talk about being a one-trick pony!

Oh man, that song over those end credits, it's just perfect. MORE TEARS. It does suck that it lost, but i'm not too worked up about it- what i WILL get worked up about is if the movie/Ben Burtt doesn't win every sound award ever.

Aggggh Milk and Frost/Nixon, two other ones that i really really need to see! But yeah, hype practically NEVER HELPS if you don't see the movie right away, it only serves to raise your expectations unrealistically high. Lame. :/ Thus i was expecting Slumdog to be THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER but i only liked it the average amount that i would like a good movie.

You're not a one-trick pony! You're a very valuable fangirl commodity... pony!

I can't help it, I've adored Peter Gabriel for far too long to feel otherwise, lol. (I realize this is pretty much JUST ME, but whatever. An Oscar nom, at the very least, better be forthcoming!) Sound awards would indeed be lovely. I'm still amazed (as I always am) by the depth and breadth of the technical mastery behind Pixar films, especially this one.

I just saw Slumdog, actually! And while it was very lovely, like you, I think it might be a bit over-hyped. The music was fantastic (I've had a big love of Hindi music ever since the movie theater I once worked at, years ago, used to do indie screenings for Hindi films and we'd play the music), the editing and cinematography were wonderful, and there was some great tension. Still, I'd say both Frost/Nixon and Milk are the superior films, at least for me. The former engaged me on a CRAZY level for a film that seems to be about something so straightforward, and the latter made me cry like a BITCH. (Both times. It's been a long time since I've heard an audience be so responsive to a ( ... )

Oh my god, Dev Patel is RIDICULOUSLY ADORABLE. When Slumdog won the Best Picture GG and they were all onstage, you could see him in the background getting super emotional and like trying not to burst out crying, it was so cute i wanted to hug him. I didn't see the Letterman interview but that sounds AWESOME. Oh Dave, such an old fogey now.

I think there's also a certain element of exoticism in it, because a lot of reviews I've read talk about how it's this frank portrayal of poverty in India like they've never heard of it before.

Yeah i've kind of gotten that vibe too. Haven't they ever watched The Amazing Race or cracked open an issue of National Geographic?

I'm deeeefinitely going to watch FNL, i was kind of just waiting till i had all of s3 so i could go for it all at once without getting sidetracked after forgetting to download it or whatever. I'm really excited for it though, i've only heard positive things about s3 and i really miss getting crazy embarrassingly emotional over every episode. :*(

I recently saw Slumdog Millionaire, with hardly any hype (not watching broadcast TV helps, I think. Also? Not reading LJ posts about movies in case they're spoilery), and I loved it. But I think TV has made it impossible for me to love any movie in more than a "that was good" kind of way, because I don't think I've ever gotten invested in movie characters in a way that will carry it into fannish obsession. Not even Iron Man could do that.

I think the only thing that's come close is Pride and Prejudice, but that's only because of the book AND the preceding mini series. So that's not a good example.

I have actually been thinking about that a lot recently, so i totally get you on that one. Comparing tv and movies is so odd because the relative length of movies makes me wonder how they manage to fit in any character development AT ALL. Anyway i can't hold on to movie obsession for that long because it's not like there are new episodes every week, so no matter how intense my love for a movie is, it inevitably fades away without the stream of new things that tv provides.
