I love that the hat is the last thing that Ryan takes off - it makes it such a part of him, as if it is the thing that truly makes him naked. Heh, and obvi Chad and I are cut from the same cloth since he mentions it too :)

I have to laugh at the mittens - I can't decide if Chad is very clever or simply deluded and naive. I expect the system works because his parents don't go looking (I've backstoried in this awesomely awkward safe sex talk and that his parents just close their eyes and force themselves to have faith in him and not be dumb about it

Hee! I love your backstory of horribly awkward sex talks. After that, his parents would probably be rather reassured to see that the lube and condoms were getting used (even if they didn't want to think about how).

I think that their relationship would feel even more fagile to Ryan than to most people, because he's still fairly new to having friends, much less a boyfriend. I imagine it would seem all too likely that he could lose those still-new relationships.

The ending totally made me go 'awwwwwwwwww!', which is a small miracle since I was sure my brain had been shot with all the hotness. *fans self* This was wonderful, I loved Ryan's insecurity and Chad noticing it and even feeling some insecurity about their relationship himself. It'd be awesome if you continued this 'verse, but it's great as a standalone, too. Kudos!
