Aww! I'm not in bandom and pretty much know nothing about these people, to be honest. *laughs* But if Oregon/California Trail-y stuff is a fandom, then it is one of mine. (I even went to a wagon train-themed summer camp as a kid. Yeah. And who knows how many hours I spent on different versions of the computer game.) This is really sweet. <3 I love how you took into consideration what could offend people back then (being shirtless, reading novels, etc.) and I particularly enjoyed the Gothic stories/Secret Shame part. :D

:D Thank you!

I didn't even know there were wagon-trained themed summer camps. That's awesome!

I'm so glad you gave it a try and enjoyed it, even if it wasn't in your fandom.

Yeah...it may not be quite as cool as it sounds. XD The wagon train theme didn't go all that far beyond the fact that our "cabins" were stationary covered wagons, with bunk beds and canvas walls and everything. It was in the mountains, so that made for some pretty cold mornings. But the camp was awesome nonetheless, there was much forest!capture the flag and such to be had.

I am very open to stories out of my fandom when they're done in such a way that I don't have to have extensive background knowledge to enjoy them. :D This is definitely one of those.

The only summer camp I ever went to was a church camp the year someone left money in their will for all the kids in our parish to go. So yours still sounds pretty cool. :o)

Me, too! I've recently had a lot of fun reading old OC fic, and I've never even seen an episode.

Oh wow, I was so disappointed when I realized I was coming to the end of this, your ability to build the atmosphere and setting is so amazing that it was almost like I'd forgotten it was a story, and usually I find myself disappointed when stories end without the characters getting together or something. If that makes sense. Anyway, I thought it would be a disappointing end, but it wasn't, it was perfect, and so sweet, and the best place to leave it. I really love this, I LOVE how you captured Frank's voice and energy so well, it was amazing. I love the end, holding hands in the dark, and the 'we're the first people who've ever done this' part, it was so beautiful.

I know that feeling, of watching the scrollbar at the side of the screen get closer to the bottom and fearing that the ending will be a disappointment. I'm glad you liked the way it came out, though. In my head, Frank and Gerard definitely get together. There were so many bachelors in California sharing quarters just out of convenience, that few people ever notice that that's not what Frank and Gerard are doing. But I didn't see them getting to that kind of seriousness on the road, with the lack of privacy.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I really appreciate it.

Thank you so much! I know there are still anachronisms, but I did try to pull myself into a 19th century sort of place as I wrote. :o)

I liked this so much!! The way you fitted them all into this time and place and making them look completely at home there was fabulous, and I loved the way you managed to convey an atmosphere of happy expectation all through the story and made the ending feel like the beginning of something big and wonderful. And I loved your Frank, he was so RIGHT!
