Spock had been walking down the hall from one of his 'dinner dates' with the captain, looking over a PADD that listed suitable meals that he and Jim could share for the next engagement. It was fairly late, with gamma shift already in full session, so he hadn't been expecting anyone in the corridor.
And of course, that did mean he would encounter someone, and that someone was definitely the CMO of the ship. The Vulcan nearly dropped his PADD as McCoy walked right into him.
Spock straightened up after regaining his balance and looked almost curious. "Doctor? It is peculiar to see you out this late by the clock's time." And then he noted the red mark on his cheek and the almost upset look accompanying it. "...Was there an incident?"
McCoy straightened up a little and looked over at Spock as he asked him if there had been an incident and ran a hand through his hair. Is this really the man I should be talking to? Come on, McCoy, he's a Vulcan, it's not like he's going to tell you how you should be FEELING.
"Well, I was having a few replicated drinks with one of the nurses after our shift and things got a little.. out of hand," he said. Quite literally...
McCoy was right, Spock wasn't exactly the best to ask about things on emotions, but he could say for certain that he was getting better at accepting his shipmate's. He raised a brow, but didn't question if it was proper to go drinking with one's own workers - it was a Human thing if he remembered correctly.
"Is this an incident you seek assistance with?" Spock tucked the PADD under his arm after shutting it off, looking over the Human in front of him. He seemed pretty shaken...or upset...by whatever had happened.
It had never occurred to McCoy that it may be improper for him to be drinking with one of crew-mates that worked beneath him, but that wasn't a huge concern of his. Then Spock asked him if he needed assistance, though, and Bones immediately diverted his eyes.
"No, thank you, Commander, but I am in no need of assistance. Nothing happened that I cannot handle on my own or figure out alone eventually," is what he intended to say, but it came out more along the lines of "Well, believe it or not, if you wouldn't mind, I think I'd like running the situation by you... just to get an outside opinion.."
"Well, Standard is the basis for the language on Earth now, though I understand the different dialects and sub-languages. This slang you are using with the holograms in this scenario must have been a dialect used at one point. Either way, it does not change the illogical usage of words and colorful metaphors."
"And perhaps instead of finding humor, it would be a better usage of the time in the hologram to find a way out of the scenario and back into the decks of the Enterprise." A tilt of the head and Spock was heading out of the door. The hot air and wind that greeted him was welcomed. It wasn't as hot as Vulcan, but it was close to how it was usually at night. Looking around, some of the people were staring at him before going about their business. Fascinating.
