It only had a calming effect since his ears were still partially damaged. He was coming to terms with that and see what could be done whenever shore leave was over. Right now, he was seated in his meditation pose on the cliff side from earlier. He had attempted said meditation earlier in his room, but it was useless with loud voices and music from another room. Probably a few of the crew having a good time in the last few hours of shore leave.

He had more pressing matters in his mind at the moment though. First he had reflected on Marla and his treatment towards her, and then Nyota saying that he should apologize. He would have to consider it... He was in the wrong, correct?

But then his thoughts migrated to Kirk from earlier, and how he had stated that he liked the Vulcan. That he felt secure in his presence, that he was calming and nice to be around. While Spock understood that he didn't reject those feelings, he wasn't..sure how to return them. Obviously feelings weren't on the Vulcan's strong side.

Once he finds his way back up to the cliffside, he doesn't let himself be known at first. No, at first he watches his Vulcan companion. The older man before him seeming to be lost in meditation or hoping to get lost into it.

"Spock?"

Then it's a good thing Spock's ears are still damaged, and that they're filled with the roar of the waves from below. He doesn't hear Kirk's approach, eyes shut and lost in his meditation until that questioned name reaches him. He's silent still for a moment, maybe two as he eases out of his peaceful state and blinks before looking back to see Kirk there.

"Captain." He answers, easing himself up into a standing position to face the other. "I was not expecting to meet with you out here."

Definitely a good thing, otherwise the good Commander would've heard him. It would've ruined the surprise, not that this was a surprise of any sort. That was something he never really tried to do anyway, besides it wouldn't work.

"I came to retrieve you, actually. Trying to round everyone back towards the ship."

"If my research is correct, it is a way to display that the two are courting to the public without being obscene with such a display. There is a way that Vulcans do it as well, but it requires less contact." He halted once more to an easy stop, looking at his commanding officer.

"Your research would be correct." Jim says with a slight nod. Because hugging at least wasn't obscene, not in public anyway. Though the statement of how Vulcans... "How do they show it, Spock?"

Alright, then it was inappropriate. Spock found most of the intimate touchings Humans did in public rather illogical, and better for houses, rather than out where anyone could see them. Then again, he didn't understand Humans very well.

Spock slowly presented his hand to Kirk, with his index and middle finger extended together while the ring and pinkie were curled to his palm. "Given the sensitivity of the Vulcan's fingers, stroking the index and middle finger together is akin to than of a Human kiss."

A hug in public didn't feel inappropriate to Jim. Those blue eyes watch the Vulcan before him. In fact, all of this was rather interesting. Then being told that the... Watching him, he reaches out with his own index and middle finger.

"So I would run my fingers lightly over yours then?" He says watching his commander, he was close to doing it. Though he didn't want to make the older man uncomfortable.
