nineteenth dream

Apr 19, 2009 13:27

[Evening had come, and darkness has descended. There was a light drizzle, but it is warm, warm enough to bring forth an eerie fog that spread like a plague across the hills. The landscape is dead, barren, for the humans have been harvesting the trees here. The grass is thin and brittle under her paws despite the rain. It looks nothing like what it ( Read more... )

[San enters the forest and looks around in startlement. It's home - she knows it is. Breathing in the fresher air and feeling the drizzle on her skin, she sees mother, and what mother does. Without hesitation, she starts running toward her.]

Mother!

[Hackles rise for a moment, though they drop right away. One massive paw settles on the form of Eboshi, as Moro turns her head toward her daughter.]

[San looks at the scene, conflicted for a moment. She knows what Ashitaka would say.

But she is not sorry about Eboshi's demise. She nods at her mother and takes a few steps toward her.]

[Her lips curl in a carnal manner, for that was her heart's desire; knowing that woman would pay for all she had done. There is still chaos behind them, cows mulling in fear, the sounds of human voices, but Moro steps forward toward her daughter.]

[Rao steps into the scene. Her eyes widen - not at the carnage, but at the white wolf. With a great effort she forces herself to remember that this wolf is different, that it does not have the divine red markings Amaterasu has - and that, most of all, Amaterasu is not the kind of deity that would kill humans. She says nothing, choosing to stare instead.]

[Moro would be quick to point out that these humans were not innocent, for they had killed many and brought about the destruction of the Shinigami's forest, and as the wolf goddess, it was her duty to protect the forest from their like.

This being though. Blood-shot eyes flicker, for the scent on the air from the strangers direction is not the same as those before her.]

[True as that may be, Rao did not know that, and all she saw was a great wolf with bloody jaws. Unafraid - ready to defend herself at a moment's notice - but still cautious, she takes a few steps forward to better survey the damage.]

[Moro makes no move to attack this person, unless she herself did something toward Moro or the Forest spirit's forest, for then the wolf would act. Still, her eyes warily watched her, lips curling back in a warning.]

[Anne stands to the side, utterly terrified. She should have known, really -- Moro was a wolf spirit, and wolves were predators, and Moro had never really been the most gentle of spirits. Anne had always gotten a sense that there was a deep current of anger running through the spirit's soul. But knowing and seeing are two entirely different things, and Anne has never seen any violence as brutal as this before. She's not going to forget it soon.]

[It was her home. She was not a mindless beast attacking anything and everything, but she would fight tooth and limb for her forest, and had done so to the cost of her life. She'd have been quite happy had the humans simply left the forest alone, for she could have rested peacefully.]

[Anne looked around desperately for a way to escape, afraid that Moro would see her as an intruder and enemy as well.]

[She regards the girl, for despite the scents in the air, she knows that this is not one of Eboshi's people, for they all reek. Still... then who? Ears flicker, as Moro's rage simmers down, for her enemy has already been taken.]

Who...

[Appears up on the cliff, standing tall, wearing the red tunic from her own dream, her hair down and being caught in the wind and rain as she watches.]

[Unlike in the other dreams she'd visited, this one she appears close to her true self--watching with some vague envy.]

[She was a protector of forests, and even though that duty was now gone, she still dreamed of the days when it was such, and dreamed of what could have been. She did not regret saving her daughter, though killing Eboshi for the crimes she had committed was always something that Moro would want to do.]

[She remains, watching for the longest time, and then bows out of this dream as well.]

Moro-san!

[Youko appears at the edge of the woods, at the end of the scene after the wolf has claimed her prize.]

[A flash of teeth at the sudden utterance of her name as the wolf turns. Nostrils flare, for again, this is not one that bears the stench of Eboshi's people.]

[She squints. Doesn't Moro recognize her.]

It's me. Youko, Moro.

Youko.

[What was she doing here? Moro blinks slowly, hackles lowering as her lips fall back down over her fangs.]
