BETA COMPENDIUM

Nov 10, 2012 17:50

So we've been getting a number of comments about this for a good while now, and we're going to do something about it. Writers and betas need more than a name and email to be able to establish a working relationship, even if it's just for our challenge. So this post will be where beta readers can share the information that writers have told us they' ( Read more... )

I've been writing fanfiction off and on for seven years or so, and beta-ing for at least three. I tend to focus a lot on sentence structure and syntax, and I've been told that I'm pretty good at characterization.

I have a very strong preference for slash, though I don't mind straight side pairings. Other than that I'm down with pretty much anything, it takes a whole lot to squick me out so bring it on.

I am doing the bigbang myself, so some of my time will have to go to my own fic, but I'll try to be as quick but thorough with yours as I can.

Just let me know who you are and why you're contacting me. Also a summary, the pairings, and the word count of your fic would be nice to know right off the bat.

I've been writing fic for...8 years, probably. I've done a little bit of beta reading. I'm fairly new to the Teen Wolf fandom but I have seen every episode multiple times and I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of the characters.

Stiles/Derek is my favorite fic to read and I really like AUs but canon based fics are fine too. Some of my other favorite ships are Lydia/Allison and Scott/Isaac, but I'd be up for pretty much anything except Derek/Allison and Peter/Lydia.

I'm also not really a fan of mpreg or rape/non-con.

I can help with grammar issues, characterization, and telling you what doesn't really flow well, or pointing out plot holes, and things like that.

What experience do you have writing or beta reading, if any? On again/off again writer for several years now, but I've been beta-ing for a good 4 or 5 years solid. Mostly it's been SPN/RPF, Kane/Carlson, Leverage/RPF, BBC Sherlock, Doctor Who, Bandom and odd fusions that have caught my eye ( ... )

Experience: Beta ~5 years (also, English teacher)
Editing strengths: Line editing (grammar, spelling), writing flow and pacing, continuity
Pairings: All okay
Squicks/Triggers: None, but as eirana said earlier, serious subjects should be dealt with seriously.
Likes: Canon-compliant, crossovers, AU's, futurefuc - I love them all. I really love poly betas (Boyd/Erica/Isaac~~) And anything with Peter. Also, more Mama McCall would not go amiss.
Dislikes: There really isn't much I flat out won't read. Rule 63 isn't my favorite (not to be confused with trans* AU's, which are great). And I'm assuming no one is writing 20,000K+ words of crackfic, but if you are, I'll pass.

experience: a little bit of betaing a couple years ago, but other than that, I'm mostly just a reader and writer who did well in English in high school and is subjected to reading essays in college now ( ... )
