As a geology student, 1st semester Physical Chemistry is a lot of archane math dealing with thermodynamics brought to us by Gibbs. I spent hours upon hours in frustration trying to comprehend the math behind entropy, free energy, thermal equilibrium, etc. All this to understand phases of matter gas, liquid, and the various solid phases. ...for those eagar geology students who wish to understand the formation of metamorphic rocks.
