Mike runs an ASUS Eee netbook a friend sent him(he wasn't using it)as his main machine, his PC died and he was using it in the interim until he could get a new motherboard. He's running Ubuntu. That was about 2 years ago.
I can't begin to tell you how impressed we are with that tiny thing (we call it the sammich) It's got a monitor, auxillary keyboard, mouse and external hard drive plugged into it most of the time, I kind of felt sorry for it.
When my main machine goes, ASUS is at the top of my list unless Panasonic comes out with something really good.
90% of the time, I just use the pen and use the pen input panel to recognize my handwriting. (this whole review was written that way)
I'll also use the on-screen keyboard from time to time.
When I'm at my desk at work, I use the blue tooth keyboard (no plugging in needed) I use touch for mouse at that point though. Thus far there has been no need for an actual mouse.
Can it run any older linux OS's with it's current features? I'm not one of those people who is happy to ignore what Win7/iPhone and their generation has trojan-horsed into the world of privacy.
Perhaps the world of even moderate privacy is gone forever with the current infrastructure, but I like to achieve the best I can with that still runs. I currently use an original Asus Eee - its like my ClarkNova for writing everything, as it's got a nicely clamped-down version of eeebuntu, and I only rarely turn the wifi on.
But, dread the thought, when ClarkNova reaches his end of days, I will be looking for a new Eee.
