Fall/Winter Seasonal Challenge - Random Prompts
We're changing things up a bit with this seasonal challenge (thus the delay in posting the guidelines). As you may or may not know, we mourned the loss of tinman100 early last month and it was decided that we'd absorb it over here at tm_challenge. Therefore, I bring you our first Big Damn Drabble Challenge, a table of 100 prompts.
Challenge-specific guidelines: This is a participatory challenge. Each drabble is worth a certain amount of points and at the end of the challenge the member who has the most points wins, plain and simple. There's no voting and no averaging.
There are three different types of drabbles that you can write for this challenge, either single drabbles (100 words), double drabbles (200 words), or triple dabbles (300 words). All word-counts must be exact. You may write no more than 50 singles at 1 point each, 30 doubles at 2 points each, and 20 triples (3 points each).
We are going to maintain the team format for this challenge, just as was used on tinman100. In one corner, we have Team Tin Man, the ever-vigilant defenders of Central City. In the other corner, we have Team Longcoats, the dubious foes who really rock in all that black leather. Teams earn points for the completion percentage of their members. The tables are worth 170 individual points if completed. If I write all 50 of my singles, 15 of my doubles, and 10 of my triples, I have earned 110 individual points. That is roughly 65% of the total points on the table. My team (Longcoats, HO!) gets 65 points.
Because of the participatory nature of this challenge, it is open to anyone who wishes to participate, including the moderators. You may only use one prompt per drabble. Only new drabbles written for this challenge will be allowed.
Prompt Usage: All drabbles must be Tin Man related, and you may use these prompts however you see fit. You can write the drabbles as characterization exercises for works in progress, or as the basis for a larger work. You can use the word exactly as it appears, you can change tenses, or you can invoke the feeling of the word or its meaning. This is a big, wide, open sandbox. Use them as you will.
Posting Process: You can write and post your responses in your own journal from now until the final day of posting. Copy the code for the prompt table (below) and post it and your drabbles in your own journal as private entries. Your table will need to be posted and edited in the HTML tab, not the Rich text tab, when you post! As you write and post your drabbles, link them to their prompts. You do not have to post 100 separate posts in your journal for this! For instance, you can post ten or more of them at the same time under different cuts and use the cut link in the table. For more information on using cuts, please check this faq post. To make sure that no one forgets to write their drabbles, I'll post reminders every week or two throughout the duration of the challenge.
Deadline: Posting here will begin on 3 January 2009 (yes, 2009). I'll make a post that day and post the final details of the challenge. At this point, you will need to change the security settings on your table and your drabbles to public. (This is so I can verify your points. For a quick and easy way to do this, see ljsec to download a very small client. I use LJ-Sec on a frequent basis, and it is a safe and reliable program.) Posting will close on 16 January 2009. The number of people participating will determine when standings will be posted.

For those using this table, replace USERNAME with your username, the asterisks (*) with the number of your entry, and the amperstand (&) with the exact cut number of the drabble. If you paste this into Notepad, you can press CTRL+H and replace all of the USERNAME text with your username with the click of one button.
Anticipated FAQ:
Why can't I just write all of my drabbles and keep them on my hard drive, then post them all in the same post on 3 January? That way, I could just post a link to one post on this comm, and there would be no need for a linked table.
I suppose you could if you want to. However, posting them all as private and changing the security settings later will help when it comes time to post your linked table to this community. And I'm dead-set on that table. ;-)
I really don't know if I want to use LJ-Sec, especially since I won't need it other than for this challenge.
LJ-Sec is a really handy little tool that I use on a frequent basis. Like I said above, it's extremely small, hardly uses any memory, and is a quick way to manage your security settings. You could technically set them all by hand, but that would take more time than the utility. Besides, you can always uninstall it after the challenge is done. :-)
