Justice

Jun 07, 2007 21:01

This week the people over at Vice Records are kicking the promotion machine into high gear for the much-hyped Justice album "†" out next week. Every day this week on their mp3 blog they have been posting a couple of Justice remixes of other artists as well as remixes of their new single "D.A.N.C.E." I posted the video for this song a couple of ( Read more... )

ya know, i haven't quite fallen in love with the justice lp just yet...

its certainly not bad... maybe its kinda like if thai food is your favorite, then italian just can't ever be thai, even if italian was once your favorite... i'm not sure anyone but me can understand that all of a sudden... :OP

catchy as d.a.n.c.e. and the party and such may be, the highlight for me so far is the two part phantom tracks...

I haven't fallen in love with it either, but it has moments of goodness (and yeah, Phantom is great!!!). Often it's really difficult for me to embrace an album as a whole. It's usually broken down into would/would not drop it in a set.

As an album, I think it's a decent snapshot of what's hip with the kids in electronic music right now - that skuzzed out, punky, acidy electro sound. The Blackstrobe, Digitalism and Simian Mobile Disco albums drop in the next couple of weeks, and I'll be checking those out as well.

And yeah - I totally understand your thai vs. italian analogy. It works :) and now I'm hungry!

there are definitely full albums that i can appreciate as a whole, even when it comes to dance/electronic/whatever-is-the-best-thing-to-call-it...

i think part of my fear is that i'm tempted to say something like "i like how daft punk did it better" which the sound of, i believe, makes me seem really... crotchety.

so i guess its not that... after all, i do like it, just not in a "change the world" kinda way. it may, however, make a big splash... even i though i may not choose it to be the next big thing, if it is that's a hell of a lot better than whatever commercial junk is going to be forced at people anyway.

oh, and btw after i read your response about me making you hungry it made me really hungry... and i've stayed hungry like all day ;O)

Nah, you're not crotchety, bear! I know what you're saying about "Daft Punk did it better" - and I agree with you somewhat. I felt the same way about the MSTRKRFT album. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't revolutionary or anything new (even though they did it well).

Some of my friends were going nuts over Scissor Sisters when they made their big splash, and didn't understand why I wasn't into them (My reply was that I never liked Elton John - and he did that sound better). I can appreciate what they are trying to do - and if someone buys their album and through that starts exploring other less-mainstream artists (like Rufus, Mika, or Antony & The Johnsons) that's definitely something positive in my book.

Sorta like how my friends who were EBTG fans got interested in deep house because of Ben Watt. :)

And damn, I'm hungry again! *belly grumbles*
