Actually, you don't need the iPod... you could plug in two jump drives or two hard drives in the USB ports in the rear. It looks like the display would work as well on those in terms of listing the contents. But then it sorta becomes an overpriced mixer?!?
I totally agree what you're saying about having to reset the iPod, that would give me pause (pun intended) in terms of playing "out" with it.
On the same vein - I saw Sasha spin with Ableton live on an iMac with his custom controller, and that froze and crashed as well. Talk about awkward!
I think this tool is great for bedroom DJs (even better if the price drops a bit). It's a sweet way to start without buying tons of new gear.
