It totally makes sense to me and, speaking as a one-time psyche major, it might just work. Reminding yourself of the reasons why you got into the fandom can only help rekindle that love.

A friend of mine writes Chuck fanfic. Seasons 1 and 2 were the best, 3 was okay, and the last two lacked something. So, she pretty much pretends the series ended after season 2 and confines her writing to that. It works for her. :)
