My mum taught me the basics when I was a teenager, but I didn't knit for years. I took it up again when the kids were small - baby sweaters are so much easier to knit than large grown-up ones (my icon is one I knitted for my son) - and largely taught myself the fancier stuff using a good book and YouTube. Now I pretty much only knit socks - I love the yarn, and the way the project is so portable and sort of fits in the hands when you're knitting. Plus knitting with four or five DPNs at once impresses the hell out of non-knitters, even though it's not really that difficult at all once you get the hang of it ;)
I don't knit socks. I know everyone does it but I don't like the way wool feels so I can't imagine wearing wool socks.
I was scared of DPNs for a long time. Then I decided to make a pair of mittens and it suddenly made sense! They are tricky to start but then it clicks and there you are!
I love doing cables which some people think are really hard. But they are one of the easiest, prettiest things you can knit. I can't imagine why people won't knit cables.
There are so many beautiful sweater patterns I want to try. But I don't feel capable just yet. Hopefully after the class. (I'll keep you posted on how the class goes.)
Physics is very challenging, so I think you're doing great just to get through it! Great that you're doing so well in all the other classes! Great keep moving forward (get it, like in physics?). Yeah, but it's the best physics joke I could come up with.
You are a great writer, and I think a book written by you would be great! I know absolutely nothing about self-publishing, though. Maybe your teacher will have some advice for you?
Have a wonderful trip! And then enjoy that break before summer classes start.
I tried knitting once (just self-taught). It was fun, but I wasn't patient enough. I couldn't stay with a project long enough to finish. I think I completed one scarf but never got around to finishing the second one. I hope you really enjoy it!
I am going to a baseball game for Easter! It snowed last Sunday, but it's supposed to be in the 70s this Sunday, so that should be nice. :)
Thanks for the kind words about surviving Physics. OMG. It's a beast. But you're right - you have to move forward. If there is no change in distance, there is no work done. Or so says the formula!
Thanks also for the kind words about my writing. I never think it's any good. I guess we're all our own harshest critics.
Several people have told me they don't have the patience for knitting. I like the rhythm and the quiet of it. I think that's one of the thing that appeals to me about it? Mostly as of now I've made scarves from craft store yarn. Before I invest in the "good stuff" I want to make absolutely sure I know what I'm doing!
Enjoy your baseball game! Have some peanuts and cracker jacks for me.
(Please note the fabulous icon I dug out of the vault! One of my faves but I can't use it al year. :-( Still love it!!!!)
YAY for classes being almost over and for Chris Evans this weekend. IT WAS SUCH A GOOD MOVIE!!
Physics is one of those things that completely click, or it doesn't. If you're passing it then that's all that matters! That's how I'm chosing to look at it!
I LOVED my chick weekend in Savannah. Enjoy it excessively!!! I can't wait to hear about the wonderful time you'll have!
Your schedule sounds smart, so don't sweat the May graduation. You're squeezing more in! That's a wonderful thing.
*SQUEEEEEEEE* about your storytelling teacher! YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!
YAY for knitting class, I think you'll love it!!!
I'm printing out the fic now to read over the weekend! I will absolutely give you the good the bad and the squee!
Wow! You have my awe and my envy for actually doing study of any kind, as I am completely unable to picture myself being so brave.
Good luck for all the things, and I hope you don't do as badly as you fear. Wonderful news to hear a teacher thinks you're talented - yay! Good luck with the idea of self-publishing too!
