It's weird but, without the flirting the Doctor and Donna did during the Ood episode, this feels completely different. There's an unspoken coldness to the Doctor.

Really? That's not what I hear when I read this. I don't remember any flirting during the events of this chapter in canon, because things were too serious. With Eight, he's thawing from his earlier experiences that made him so hard. All because of Donna. And since she started as his companion on the heels of her failed wedding, flirting feels kind of... wrong. A bit of teasing, yes. You can't have a Doctor and Donna story without some of that. For the time being it's more a playful teasing and banter than flirting. Hope it makes more sense later on.

Reading your comments is reminding me of when I first read "Much Ado About Nothing". I couldn't believe it was a comedy; it all seemed too harsh and bitter for that. (BTW, I recall doing a slight revision of Chapter One after you commented on that a while back.)

I've put together some evidence in the hope of persuading you, or that at least will amuse you! ;)

Note to self: It does help to add in the link.

Yeah, it does help, doesn't it? Anyway... point taken where Ten and Donna were concerned. I reiterate that, by the very nature of what Eight's been through, flirting isn't necessarily going to happen. Banter, yes. Playfulness? That's coming back to him through Donna's gentle coaxing, and the need to do that anyway. But more than that? I don't think they've been together more than a linear month, and my gut feeling is that's nowhere NEAR enough time to heal enough so anything that happens isn't a rebound and would be tainted by that.

Just wait until the next story. They'll have been together a lot longer, and... well, spoilers. :)
