I've been cruising around this site that talks about how modern public schools completely stifle creativity and turn kids into mindless drones who only care about grades and don't care about learning, and it's gotten me thinking about stuff. My friend who attended the same Creative Writing department but a few years later was told that she couldn't write genre, even though that is what she wanted to write. The teachers were more about structure, less about allowing the students to write what they want. Can you believe that? From a Creative Writing department?! I think it might also have to do with how I engaged my teachers: my education, my terms within their framework. And if I had a problem in a class and I felt that approaching the teacher would be beneficial, I would do that. There was one class that was so aggravating because how much I approached the teacher things were not resolved. That would be my male statistics prof who wasn't that great at English and didn't seem to understand that his students did not approach statistics in the same manner that he did. When asked how to do something, he would explain in the same way he had used the first time. *sighs* I put more effort in that class than I normally would in a class that pissed me off so.
