Sweat dripped onto the floor as Colby pushed himself just a little harder. He cranked out ten more pushups before he allowed himself a break and used his shirt to wipe his brow.
Not long after he got here, he had started exercising as a way to keep his mind off things. He had tried to keep track of time as best he could and as far as he could tell, he’d been in here for four weeks.
He was surprised when he heard the slot in the door open up and looked over expectantly. It wasn’t time to eat yet and today wasn’t shower day. The now familiar voice of the guard assigned to him called out, “Come on, Granger. You know the deal.”
Colby stood where he was with his hands on his hips before he shook his head and obediently extended his arms. Cuffs were immediately placed on him snugly and as he pulled back, the guard droned, “All right. Back against the wall…hands where I can see them.”
He did as he was instructed and when the guard eased the door open, he motioned for him to come forward. “It looks like we won’t be seeing much of each other from now on. You and Carter are getting transferred - today. But first, that Kirkland fella is here to see you again.”
That meeting changed his life. Kirkland slipped him a key and unfolded a plan that was set in motion for both he and Carter to escape and that’s exactly what they did. Things were going exactly as planned, but then Colby had texted Kirkland as they had discussed and got no response. Something was wrong and Colby realized then that he was even more alone than he had previously thought he was.
He and Dwayne were supposed to meet up with his contact soon and though he made several attempts, he couldn’t reach Kirkland and so he’d done the only thing he knew to do…he called Charlie. The only person that he knew he could trust right now was Don and the quickest and safest way to get to him was through Charlie.
