I'm pretty sure just grounding the turntable to something metal will be sufficient.
I have the software on my laptop to record vinyl to my computer, and I have the necessary cable for it - I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. My software is Sony SoundForge, I think. Supposedly a pretty good bit of software. I have already used it to clip an MP3 to create a ringtone - just drag the bar to the spot in the sound waves where I want it cut, and click. It'll work the same when I copy a record. Pretty cool.
Hey, while you're recording, can you make a list of all the vinyl you have? You may have some old stuff that I'd like to copy... and of course I'll return the favor if you like.

Even just making the list will take a while! I do have a lot of kewl stuff though. There's a lot of junk thrown in there, but I have a *seriously* bizarre collection. People kept giving me their old albums when they'd ditch their vinyl for CD's.... which is why I have things like... The Osmonds and The Elvis Xmas Albums?... (I admit, the Andy Gibb album was mine to start with
