Up here, Starbucks are repeatedly considered the Empire of Evil (hence the joke in Austin Powers II, one of many Canadian jokes that made it into the movie, thank you Mike Myers), much the same as Walmart, and a large percentage of the population systematically boycotts them. I am one of them. I go to Second Cup or Coffee Depot. Most Canadians go to Tim Hortons. This is only one of many examples of their shoddy practices.
I'm sure the employees are fine. It's their business practices. Their way of negotiating their coffee and chocolate and vanilla that are quite counter to fair trade, if I may use a euphemism.
You make a good point. I suppose if 'Fair Trade' opened up a place near here, I'd devote all my addiction to them.
In case you're unfamiliar, Fair Trade is an organization that cuts out middle-man, money-wrangling practices between consumers and those producers of coffee, tea, chocolate from poorer underdeveloped parts of the world..
Nice to know my dark chocolate money is helping someone who needs it.
