Finding the "fuel" for ministry is almost as hard as discerning a call to it. To take myself as an example, my fuel for ministry comes from the belief that God loves us so much that we must share that love with others. The interchange of sharing that is where I get energized to be compassionate/giving and is what fuels me. Sometimes you can go overboard (and those closest to you start worrying about it), but that fuel must come from the deepest recesses of your heart and soul, because it must be true to you in order to have any impact with others. IM/e-mail if you want to go more in depth.
I'm almost the opposite in that I need the affirmation but find most of what's received is less-than-serious. I put a number of entries up at the beginning of my journal about ministry and different aspects of it. I'm not sure if I got into the three-part call in those entries or not

Tom! It will be obey-kabey...we will get our CHrist on, Kick it Jesus style, make fun of American Idol, go to Wal-Mart at ridiculous hours of the morning, hang out and do nothing just to enjoy one another's company, give hugs when one of us needs one, and be there to remind one another to keep our eyes on the Saviour, not the sorrow.
I love you Tom, in that respect-to your marriage and in Christ kind of way!
