Audio book: Toys by James Patterson

Mar 18, 2011 10:41

After fangeeking out over it yesterday (in an f-locked manner, mind you), let me write a few more level-headed words about the James Patterson audio book, Toys. After having made it to track 11 on the first CD, I think I've overcome the initial squee of hearing Matt's voice and can now actually pay more attention to the story without being ( Read more... )

you asked for my opinion?, matt bomer has eaten my brain

He did. He got Rowling wrong. D: I'm glad this bothered someone else too. Otoh, Matt doing the voices of small children = adorableness incarnate!

I can be nitpicky with tiny details like that. I have a thing for getting names right. We used to have a colleague from the UK who would always spell my other colleague's name Axle instead of Axel, despite her having read the correct version in countless e-mail. I guess for some people it's just not that important...

Matt is doing great with all the voices. And the emotions. Have you already finished listening? (No spoilers, please. I'm really into the story.)

Some people just don't pick up on that kind of thing, I guess.

I haven't finished - before the book came out, I demolished the free samples. I'm trying to find where I left off in the actual audio book. :)

I'm now on disc 3. And I'm loving it more and more. There's a great twist to the story, and it's just all right up my alley. It has non-alien sci-fi elements, but it also appeals on a dramatic level. And Matt really does it well with the different voices and accents. He also manages to convey the emotion wonderfully. Two thumbs up for this one. Definitely.

Ahhh love Jim Dale's voice :)))) Love to listen to Harry Potter just because of him :))

The further I listen, the more I like the audio book. It's definitely worth getting, if you ask me. And double the worth if you're a Bomer fan. Though him imitating a British accent didn't quite do it for me... But then again, I'm probably too familiar with the British accent because I've been in the UK too much and speak with a British accent myself when I talk in English.
