Cub Art and Censorship

Nov 26, 2010 00:01

I'll preface this by saying that I am actually a fan of cub art. Not sure if I'd ever draw it or write it, but I certainly don't mind it when it comes around. I'm a big fan of artists such as WolfBlade and SparkleMotion, and I love the writing of WhyteYote on the topic. So take that for what it's worth ( Read more... )

Origins of rights... vindonnus November 25 2010, 16:25:38 UTC
1) What gives you, or anyone, the right to make 'neer host content on his website?

2) What payment service, that is equivalent to Alertpay, allows the full spectrum of content on FA?

InkBunny too used AlertPay, and they too were dropped at the same time. They simply got their own merchant license so they can run debit/credit directly into their account. This is much faster and easier. It is more expensive, but InkBunny is infinitesimally funded next to FA. If InkBunny can do it, I certainly feel that FA could ( ... )

I get your first point, namely, that they could, if they wanted to, switch the site over to running debit/credit cards directly. However, the issue, as I understand it, is that the company(-ies) involved aren't set up to pay that way, and would be more likely to quit advertising on FA than to switch. Does that jive? Or is there contrary evidence?

I know they were moving to using a new system for both advertising payments and donations, but I'm not sure that they don't use Alertpay for at least some of their advertising funding.

"...in the same way that stores aren't allowed to refuse service to gay people, even though it is their store, I don't feel FA should have the right to censure at whim what people are able to post on the internet."

(1) The implication that I see here is that the government should protect freedom of speech in the same fashion as they protect freedom from prosecution/discrimination. This is to say, if someone discriminates against you for the content of your speech that should be a violation of the law. ( ... )

Well, personally I don't like cub art, and dislike the fact that there was basically no option to filter it out on FA. Whatever you did, 1 pic out of N was going to be some kid's dick and there was nothing you could do about it. Gee, thanks for the stuff that's potentially illegal in Canada right into my browser's cache. Obviously, banning cub art from FA solves that problem, so I can't say that I'm against the ban. Sorry for that!

Well you should tell Canada to get their fingers out of your browser cache. I don't believe it's any governments business what anyone else looks at online. Thankfully in the states that's a violation of my right to privacy.

From what it was said in the forum thread about this issue, Dragoneer didn't really wanted to it but he is doing this from a business stand point. All he cares is about the funds and he wanted to preserve that fund and keeping the site alive, even if that means that a sacrifice has been to be made. I think it is sad too but he is thinking about maintaining FA long term. At least, he suggested SoFury and InkBunny as an alternative. At no point that he said that he hated Cub artist.

I've not said that dragoneer hated anyone, I just feel his decision is poor. As I said in a comment above, InkBunny is a much smaller site and they too were dropped by Alertpay. They simply got their own merchant license, and they can run credit cards themselves without the help of a corporate service.

I think AlertPay is in direct violation of the constitution at the moment, but I'm certain no one will file suit against them over something like cub porn.

Dragoneer I'm certain did what he thought was best for the future of FA, but there were certainly other options. I don't feel he chose the best one.

Well, I do agree that there are probably other options and his option was done hasty.
