I haven't talked about my job situation here a whole lot lately. This past summer I was working as a temp at a call center. I liked the company well enough, but I had come to hate the job. I spent eight hours a day answering phones, which taught me a few things ( Read more... )

You saying "I don't like people" made me think of something a very introverted friend said to me when I was trrying to convince him to come to Convergence one year. Like you, he said he didn't like people. I said something like, "as a person, I'm sorry to hear that". He responded with, "I don't like people, plural. I do like you, singular". Aside from it being a really sweet thing to say, it made me think of the fact that when someone says they don't like people, what it generally means is they don't like being overwhelmed with people, the way you are in the call center. Smaller doses of people you like can be a different thing. Though after being overwhelmed by people, it"s nice to just be alone for awhile.

You're right. When I say I don't like people, I guess I mean that I don't like being forced to interact with a lot of people for long periods of time, especially if those people start to annoy me. I do have friends, and I do enjoy spending time with them ( ... )

If you're making as much money doing freelance writing that doesn't stress you out as you did in a call center job that made you miserable, it sounds like an easy choice to me.
