Author's Note: Written for whitecollar100 and friendshipper for the collarcorner prompt "Playing in the snow". Thought I could kill two birds with one stone. And also... it's probably wrong to write this in midsummer, but I think some of the folks in the US can use a little cooling down right about how, if only on paper.
Disclaimer: White Collar, its characters and its settings belong to Jeff Eastin and USA Network. And, guys? Your characters are not only welcome, they're wonderful. I'm just borrowing, I promise.

"Take that!" Neal called to Peter, throwing a snowball at him with well measured force.

Peter ducked, evading it by mere inches. "You're off your mark, Neal."

"I did that on purpose," Neal grinned back, squinting at the bright light from the sun overhead that was illuminating this beautiful winter's day in New York.

Peter bent down and gathered two handfuls of snow, pressing them into a ball with gloved hands. From the corner of his eye, he saw the next snowball advancing, but the creation of his own projectile had momentarily distracted him. Neal's snowball landed on Peter's upper arm with a thud, leaving a white mark.

Peter gave Neal a mocking glare. "I'll get you for that!"

Neal grinned back mischievously. "I'm gonna have to see it to believe it."

"Oh no!" Peter suddenly exclaimed.

"What?"

"See that over there?" Peter pointed at something in the distance. When Neal turned his attention in the direction indicated, Peter drew his arm back in a swift motion and hurled his snowball at Neal. It collided squarely with Neal's head, just above his temple.

"Ow! Damn!" Neal threw his hand to the side of his head, leaning forward with his face scrunched up in pain.

Peter's face quickly fell. "Geez, Neal." Peter's voice was suddenly stricken. He jogged over. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"

That was as far as he came. He saw Neal straightening up again with a smirk before a mass of snow exploded in Peter's face.

"Oh, that is not fair." He wiped the snow off his face with a chuckle.

Neal just stood there, legs apart in a provocative stance. "Who said anything about playing fair?"

"You really are the world's best conman."

Neal's smile became a notch more complacent. "I only learned from the best."
