I have a pair of Series 2 boxes (one single tuner, one dual tuner) that I use with Dish Network receivers. They have no problems with Dish's 4-digit channel numbers. Nor do they have a problem jumping from, for example, channel 4 to channel 8452 and then back to channel 20. So I don't think your problem is any kind of shortcoming in the TiVo.

My guess is its a problem with the TiVo box not having the correct channel setup for your converter box and provider. You might try emailing TiVo tech support.
