It says that 2.6 is free and 2.6.1 is $25. Will 2.6.1 eventually be free too?

2.6.1 is free. TiVo Desktop is always free. The only charge is the 'Plus' upgrade, and if you purchased that already for a previous version than you do not need to re-purchase.
