The origami dragon brought it up

I just had a discussion with my boss about the significance of the unicorn motif in the Blade Runner movie vs. the book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?".

He couldn't remember the origami unicorn at all, or the dreams of unicorns that Deckard has.
Now I can't remember if it's only in the director's cut.

Anyone?

You know, I never attached more meaning to the origami unicorn other than "That's how Deckard knew Gaff had been there at the end."

And yet I was really attached to it. I hunted for ages trying to find an origami book with the unicorn in it. (I actually just relocated said book in my parents attic, with bubble-gum foil stowed in it so I could try to make it the way Gaff did)
