[ooc] Midworld Terms
Since Bert is a child of Midworld it's only fair he talks like one. So here is a list of terms it he will probably be using and their modern English equivalents. (Please let me know if there's something I should add, I'm notoriously forgetful)
Ka - Fate or destiny. (Used in a lot of sayings)
Ka-tet - A group of people bound by destiny. (In Bert's case it's he, Roland and Alain)
sai - Sir or Madam. (Thankee-sai meaning "thank you very much, sir/madam")
mutie - A mutant or something altered by radioactive fallout. In the case of animals this means they grow extra eyes, heads or limbs and sometimes they have their internal organs in a clear pouch that extends below where their belly would usually be.
Gan - God. The highest power.
The Touch - Psychic power... sort of. It's mostly used in telepathy and occasionally in visions of the future.
The face of your/my father - Honor. To "remember the face of your father" is to act with honor. To "forget the face of your father" is to act dishonorably. Do not forget the face of your father!
Cry your pardon - "I'm sorry".
Notes on guns: Bert's guns (he has two of them) are BIG. Not quite comically big, but bigger than your average handgun. They're described in canon as looking like props left over from an old west movie. But they are very real, and very dangerous. They tend to leave larger and more serious wounds than your average modern gun. And when they go off, they're loud.
