In lieu of any super exciting news about the Dawn Treader movie, I've put together a picspam of people I would cast in an adaptation of The Magician's Nephew. It's my favorite book of the series and it has an awesome set of characters, so this was a lot of fun to do. I would love to hear who you'd pick too.
Digory Kirke
"We shall probably discover a gang of desperate criminals and get a reward."
This is actually the most difficult one for me to figure out. I can't think of any young actor that I would really love to see in the role. The most I can say is that if Anton Yelchin were a bit younger--but with the same slightly geeky appearance--I think he would be a really interesting Digory.
Polly Plummer
"I'm game if you are."
Saoirse Ronan. She is an awesomesauce actress, and she has an ethereal prettiness that I think suits Polly.
Uncle Andrew
"This is too good an opportunity to miss. I wanted two children. You see, I'm in the middle of a great experiment. I've tried it on a guinea-pig and it seemed to work. But then a guinea-pig can't tell you anything."
I could picture a couple different people as Uncle Andrew. One is Terence Stamp, who can come off as quite intimidating yet not all there...
Or Christopher Plummer, who showed impressive villain potential in Up. XD
Aunt Letty
"No strong language in this house, if you please, young woman."
Not a central character, but one of my favorite parts of the book is when Letty scolds Jadis for her stupid shenanigans, thinking she's a drunk circus performer. She's a no-nonsense lady, and I think Maggie Smith is perfect for the job.
Frank (the Cabby)
"I'd have been a better man all my life if I'd known there were things like this."
Paul Bettany! Down-to-earth but dignified. He has a face that I could picture belonging to either a cab driver or a king.
Helen (the Cabby's wife)
Of course she thought she was dreaming.
Pauline Baynes' illustrations of Helen remind me of Rosamund Pike so much. Graceful and kind-looking.
Jadis
"Remember what you have seen. This is what happens to things, and to people, who stand in my way."
I suppose the obvious choice is Tilda Swinton, and we already know what she'd look like in the role. Though, I always pictured Jadis as having long black hair and a much harsher and more beautiful face. Eva Green really evokes that image. And she knows how to be queenly!
Aslan
"You need no rings when I am with you."
Liam Neeson was perfect.
The Bulldog
"Now, sir, are you animal, vegetable, or mineral?"
Gruff but well-mannered! I think John Rhys-Davies could pull it off nicely.
Music
When you listened to his song you heard the things he was making up.
Music is super important in this book, of course. When I try to think of current musicians who can create a similar feeling of newness and awe as Lewis's description of Narnia being created, Sigur Ros comes to mind.
