no one bound to be so holy, part 3

Jul 31, 2009 07:09

A character analysis of Anna, hooked into the visuals from her appearances over S4. This is the final part of three. In this section, Anna's one-angel campaign continues while Castiel broods noirishly under street lights.

Part 1 and Part 2 are already up.

Here is Part 3 )

I love how understated but effective this scene is. The fact that Castiel often appears under artificial light from overhead is interesting, too-the false light emblematic, perhaps, of the fact that his orders might not be coming from God. That his faith might be misplaced....

Oooooh, awesome catch! I love this. Nice thinky thoughts for me to chew on.

Heh, thanks! I'm glad you found a something that sparked you amongst the rambling.

There was an interesting analysis of the paintings in Lucifer Rising that had some cool stuff to say about Cas and his penchant for standing under overhead lights. If you haven't seen that, it's worth tracking down.

You know, now that you say that, I think I do remember seeing that a while back. *makes mental note to track it down*

Once again you amaze me with your analysis/thesis on Anna and once again it makes me wonder who are the angels really working for. Though Castiel calls himself a devoted soldier of God, you see with the other angels that they have gone rogue and their not playing for the big cheese anymore ( ... )

who are the angels really working for?

This is the question, isn't it? :) I don't think they are working for God, either. I'm pretty sure Zachariah and whoever else he's working with are off on their own--possibly even working with the demons to bring on the apocalypse. So the altered cell phone message might have been a cooperative effort.

That betrayal of Anna is so interesting. It's such a cowardly choice to make (and I say this adoring Castiel), and it's going to be hard to come back from that. And this is the thing: Castiel might have been acting under orders, but he's still making a choice to follow those orders. In the end, no one is really responsible for his actions but him. S5 is going to start him at a pretty low point, I think; but I suspect it will be an interesting arc for the character.

Hi. Here through the Newsletter. I saw the comments about Castiel betraying Anna and just had to throw in a different perspective ( ... )

Welcome. :)

That's a great point, and an excellent perspective. I hope we'll find out that you're right--I want Castiel to be *that* guy. An angel wracked by doubt who seems a little spineless, but who is actually playing a part because he's more than he seems...I'd love this.

What you say would also fit with the foreshadowing of a false betrayal that monnified pointed out, too.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it, and to see some Anna-love in response.

Also? Your icon is hilarious.

Anna gets some ridiculous hate in this fandom. I truly do not understand. Well, I do, actually: SHE INTERRUPTS THE OTP!!!1! I ship Dean with someone too, guys, but c'mon.

LOL, when I saw this comment in my inbox, I expected you to be responding to this icon (*points). It's the one people O_O over the most. However, yes, the 99 bottles icon is fantabulous and does not get enough love!

Anna hate? Really? *sigh* I don't get that, either. There's room enough in the sandbox for everyone to play, and no reason not to play nice.

LOL, that's . . . mesmerizing. And amazing.

Interesting conclusions again. Good catch about the lighting around Castiel, and the way she and Anna are framed when they're together.

Thanks! I can't wait to see how S5 will prove me utterly wrong, but it's been fun. :) And thanks for sticking with all three parts.

I love the scene when Anna is captured. Not because she is captured but Castiel seems to regret it as soon as they leave.

LOVE the meta overall. It was absolutely fantastic and it's about Anna (which I love) even if she seems to be one of the most hated characters on the show. Whatever I say.

I know! Right beforehand (when he looks upwards) I swear he looks like he's going to throw up. Then when she's gone he looks absolutely miserable. I can't wait to see how the consequences of this (whether it was a sneaky plan on their part or an actual betrayal) play out in S5.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I had a ton of fun with this, in all its tl;dr glory, so I'm happy to hear others did, too! I like Anna a lot and I hope we see her around for longer than it takes to kill her in S5. She raises a lot of questions that haven't been answered, yet, and I'm burning with curiosity over this mysterious history she and Castiel have.

SAME! I swear if they don't reveal it soon I will have to rely on fanfic. No lie.
