I love the imagery of the bird and the repetitive bleak images of the landscape, especially "the heartless monotony of the sea." I'm looking forward to seeing what happens!

There was a phrase that struck me as a bit odd--the choice of "meat" instead of "flesh" in "Its juice was poison, its meat lies." It may be just my personal preference, but "meat" made me think of meat and distracted me from the apple metaphor.

Thank you, very much. I can see what you mean about the word choice, and I think you're right. Also, meat? Not a very sexy word. Now that I'm thinking about it, sexy is better in that instance. Thanks, again. :)

I really love this. You include just enough description to set a spare atmosphere, and it really works for this story. The Sheriff is perfect--the bit where he crunches Guy's nose is chilling but extremely effective. I also like Guy's drunken rantings at the French girl and all of the bird imagery.

I really hope that we see some sort of confrontation between Guy and the Sheriff next season over what exactly happened to Marian. I also secretly hope we see some fiction from you where Marian is still, you know, alive. But this is so good that I'll take what I can get :)

Thank you! I really appreciate your comments. Weirdly, I find the Sheriff's blend of malice, arrogance, and crazy fun to write.

I, too, would love to see Guy realize that the person he trusts (against all reason) to help him gain everything he thought he wanted intended to kill the one who had become integral to that desire. Third season, why are you so far away?!?

So did you ever end up watching Season 3? Because I think this fic sets up the Guy/Sheriff dynamic in early S3 with uncanny perfection. Beautifully written, and painfully vivid both physically and emotionally. PLEASE write more RH!
