Amy got denied a visa for the UK.
Don't know why yet, until the documentation comes through in the post.

Holy WTF?!

I bet it's some irrelevant f*cking technicality. I bet it would be easier to enter the UK in a cargo container.

Can Amy just come for a few weeks holiday using a passport?

Normally someone coming from the US wouldn't need a visa for a holiday visit of less than six months. Unfortunately Amy's been denied entry before, which is a red mark in her passport. That's not in itself grounds for being denied entry without a visa in the future, but as one of the legal advisers at work said, "immigration officers are suspicious people ( ... )

Ha. It's one time you would prefer it if the authorities are lacking in inter-departmental communication and 'joined-up thinking'.
