I read about the Kebele (14 Robertson Road, Easton, Bristol, BS5 6YJ) in the latest issue of New Internationalist. Ever been?
"A community co-operative, run by volunteers on a not-for-profit basis & providing an alternative social space. It has a very popular vegan cafe & a bike workshop & is a space for organising, supporting & campaigning autonomously."
Amy's always wanted to go there for one of their breakfasts. We could go to Ikea at the same time.
Easton starts just down the road from me, but it's not an area I've explored. It's a bit of a run-down, cheap rent area, with a moderate proportion of bristol's crime in it. It never really recovered from having the M32 built through the middle of it. Lauren & Dom's previous flatmate Mike lives there now, and according to him it has Bristol's highest proportion of nicked shopping trolleys, because so few people have a car for moving stuff when they move house.
A positive point is that this cheapness and neglect has contributed to things like Kebele, and the creative/socially active bristol scene that starts somewhere around the Dove st tower blocks in the east, goes through montpelier & st werburgs and finishes up in easton.
